Melbourne Bearkatz hosted Izard County Consolidated, Mtn. View, Lead Hill and Cave City in 9-hole match play Thursday, Aug. 23 at Cooper’s Hawk Golf Course in Melbourne.Melbourne’s Brad Lamb took medalist honors with a 33. Dylan Smith of Melbourne shot 39. Tyler Webb of Melbourne and Chris King, of ICC, each shot a 44. Chris Mosley shot a 54 for the Cougars. On the girls side, Jordan Sherrell, ICC Junior, led the girls and took home medalist honors with a 45. Emma Cooper, Melbourne senior, shot a 53 and Falyn Farmer of ICC ended the day with a 56. The Bearkatz shot the best of all schools with a 116. Izard County Lady Cougars led the way with a 161. Izard County boys came in 5th with a team total of 156, and the Lady Bearkatz placed third with 182.

COUGAR CLASSIC CHAMPIONS:The Izard County Lady Cougars golf team won the 2012 Cougar Classic High School two-day golf tournament Aug. 8. Team total was 616, one stroke ahead of Batesville Southside and Salem with 617. Southside won the playoff for runnerup. Lady Cougar Jordan Sherrell finished runner up medalist with 188 after a playoff with Highland’s Madi Harris. Teammates Kelsey Fry added a 204 and Falyn Farmer finished with 224. The two day tournament was held Tuesday, August 7 at Cooper’s Hawk Golf Course in Melbourne, and Wednesday, August 8 at the Golf Course at Turkey Mountain in Horseshoe Bend.
