Coach Harmon, ICC Cougar boys golf coach, hosted Melbourne, Salem, Mountain View and Mammoth Springs for match play at the Golf Course on Turkey Mountain in Horseshoe Bend, on September 7.
Cody Faulkner, Salem junior, teed up at hole 1 and got the match started. Group 1 for the boys were Faulkner, Chris Mosley, ICC senior; and Bradley Lamb, Bearkatz senior. The girl’s first group consisted of ICC’s Jordan Sherrell, Emma Cooper, Bearkatz; and Savannah Henley, Salem Greyhounds.
Lamb has been consistent throughout the season and didn’t disappoint that day. Lamb ended the day with a very respectful 36 and took home Medalist honors once again. Faulkner shot his best game of the season with a 38. Zach Foust carded a 45 for Salem. The Bearkatz boys had to share the spotlight with the Salem Greyhounds in their team efforts, as the two teams tied with 129 total strokes.
The Salem girls team won with a team score of 152. ICC girls were right behind them with a 154. Melbourne girls finished the day with 170. Girl’s individual Medalist honors were shared by McKenzie Jewell, Salem senior; and Allyn Irvin of Mountain View. They both shot a 46. Sherrell of ICC, carded a 48 and Kendra Pendergrass ended the day with 50.
Jewell and Henley are both seniors for the Hounds and they played on the team that went to 2A state tournament last year. Coach Tim Eckman of the Salem Greyhounds is in his first year coaching golf. Larry Brown, the long time Salem coach, has retired, but is still helping out this year.
ICC Cougars will be in the 1A District tournament, to be held at Cooper’s Hawk in Melbourne, on Tuesday, September 18. Salem will be in the 2A District tournament played at the Golf Course on Turkey Mountain on September 18.
