Making people laugh comes easy for Lucas Smith, as well as singing, playing musical instruments, never meeting a stranger, well you get the idea.
Recently Lucas, age 18 of Franklin, auditioned for American Idol in Little Rock, and came back home with a great attitude. “It was an honor,” said Lucas. “Overall it was a positive experience that I grew from.”
Lucas performed in four preliminary auditions, and made it through to the panel of celebrity judges. He did not receive a golden ticket, but that’s okay. “I had a great experience,” said Lucas. “I met alot of people that thrive on creativity and artistry. People I met were completely authentic.”
Lucas was a little star-struck when he met the panel of celebrity judges, an experience he will not soon forget. He performed Budapest by George Ezra and one of his own songs.
For now, the 2015 ICC graduate, and son of Larry and Kendra Smith, continues his studies at Ozarka College to obtain his associates degree. He then wants to transfer to UCA at Conway seeking a Major in Theater with a Minor in Linguistics.
American Idol’s farewell season premiers Wed., January 6, with two days of audition content. On Wednesday, the show will feature Denver and Atlanta tryouts, and on Thursday, San Francisco and Little Rock auditions.
We’ll have to keep watch and hopefully catch some of the highlights of Lucas’ performance.
“I had a great experience, and a peer into the workings of the show,” said Lucas, who says he will not be auditioning for The Voice. “My eyes are set on stand-up comedy,” said Lucas, which as many know is something that also comes natural for him. His first “gig” will be a one-half to one hour performance on January 18 at the UACCB campus in Batesville.
Even though Lucas did not receive a golden ticket from American Idol, he has from his community. We’re sure we haven’t seen or heard the last from this talented young man.
