The Salem Greyhounds readily overcame losses to their line from last year to defeat the Melbourne Bearkatz 42-6, for the season-opener scrimmage on Monday, August 20 at Melbourne.
“We are very encouraged by the performance of our offensive line,” said Coach Cody Curtis. “We’re very pleased with our seniors and every guy got to play.”

COUGAR CLASSIC CHAMPIONS:The Izard County Lady Cougars golf team won the 2012 Cougar Classic High School two-day golf tournament Aug. 8. Team total was 616, one stroke ahead of Batesville Southside and Salem with 617. Southside won the playoff for runnerup. Lady Cougar Jordan Sherrell finished runner up medalist with 188 after a playoff with Highland’s Madi Harris. Teammates Kelsey Fry added a 204 and Falyn Farmer finished with 224. The two day tournament was held Tuesday, August 7 at Cooper’s Hawk Golf Course in Melbourne, and Wednesday, August 8 at the Golf Course at Turkey Mountain in Horseshoe Bend.
